Potty Learning Victory #1

We had voluntary success!

This morning while I was chatting on the phone I looked up and L. had sat and went #1 on the potty ALL BY HIMSELF!!!!!

A moment to let that sink in.

I was ecstatic!

I was elated!
I was overlooking of the dribble that missed on the floor!

I made a BIG deal and praised L. thoroughly.

I wiped up the dribble, but this time, with a grin on my face.

Potty Learning Trial Day 1

To all the mothers that have successfully "potty learned" their wee ones, my hat is off to you. I have the balance in mind that my son is 19 months old, and sometimes it takes a while. BUT he's been relatively quick to pick other monumentous things up.. like walking and talking. So, why not using a potty?

L says pee and poop, and knows what a potty is, and how to sit on it. I think we're just waiting for the urge-association. And the control to hold it inside his body til he's sitting down.

My friend, Miriam told me about some PLing theory and I tried to apply a few things this afternoon.

1. Don't ask if they need to go, tell them when they need to they go in the potty. There is a difference in attitude and a shift of responsibility.

2. Their mess is their responsibility, in a non-abusive way. So, if there is an accident, there are wipes to clean with. Just like toys belong in the toy basket #1 and #2 belong in the potty.

The penicle of this afternoon's go round was most definitely when L. went #2 on the potty. I mean ON the potty. He was standing on the (closed) lid and went #2. I decided a picture was too gross; you're welcome. But none the less, 3 floor pee's and wipes up and one poopy dumped into the big toilet made a very busy afternoon for mommy. Needless to say, I'm tired of changing diapers. Cloth or otherwise. So say a little prayer for me, I suppose we'll give it another go tomorrow.

A Bone to Pick....

I have not used this blog to air my grievances in the past, but today I have a bone to pick!

In a nutshell I have been miserable all day due to an outbreak of hives. BUYER BEWARE!
I contacted the company via internet to let them know there is a problem.

Here is what I wrote:
"I am very disappointed in your All Free and Clear. Or should it be renamed 'neither free nor clear'. After using this product two-three times in the past week and a half, I have become overtaken with hives. This is the ONLY thing that has changed in our routine or of the products we consume. After a day of suspicion it was confirmed, i had taken medicine to relive myself but while nursing my son, who was dressed in freshly laundered pj's yet again my stomach, buttocks and ankles immediately began itching and swelling with weals. Please tell me what chemical is reported to have this side effect as I want to avoid it in all ways. I do not want to be hospitalized for anaphylaxis after washing clothes! In case you dismiss this is a rare case, I spoke to my health care provider today regarding my suspicions, and lo and behold her daughter is severely allergic to this product as well. I am irritated and itching. People are conned by lovely packaging in the hope that they are doing a good thing for their body and environment and this is an injustice. "

Maybe it is a wee bit dramatic but darn it all! I'm not happy!
Does anyone out there have itchies from a chemical? Air your grievance here!!!

Cloth diaper craze

In case anyone out there wonders or has concern that cloth diaper is not practicle or enjoyable... I want you to see what a cute baby L. is.. This blue diaper is a new Pocket that we just got in the mail!

An Affair To Remember:

I have found a new love affair. Diaperswappers.com Now ask me why I just discovered this goldmine of a website???? I could not give a real answer since my friend Gwen told me of it eons ago. I have been a member since yesterday and have made two purchases!!

The benefits of cloth diapering are great. I loved it from the get-go and plan to CD all our kiddies. I found though that with my mere 7 months of diapering I have a few preferences. There are all sorts of diapers out there you know! I found for each stage of life and size of bum there were different techniques or styles I liked better than others.

So what have I found to work for us?
NB--> Cotton Trifold, Snappy and Super Whisper Lite cover.
Sm--> Trifolds, Snappy, Cover and a few pre-made diapers I made from the Very Baby pattern and the Kissaluves I snagged from Gwen.
Med--> (where we are now...) I think the pocket diapers are GREAT. I made a few S/M that we can't fit right now, and have such little free time to sew I'm utilizing the 'ole Motherease (with snap inserts and covers). (Sidenote: I am not a big fan of these. I got them on a great deal and they have served us well, but the crotch is too wide. I have to add a microfiber soaker to it to make it worth while.)
Lg--> and we're heading there quick! Fuzzi bunz and Wonderworks pockets. And when I have a little time this summer I would like to make some Large Pocket diapers as well. The microfiber inserts can't be beat at 25 for 10$ at Sams. No, they're not organic and yes, they will turn your whites a lovely shade of pastel yellow reminding you of a peep when you launder them the first time... but once you move past that they're great, and who doesn't like to look like a peep under his uniform!? I mean, come on! It's like what Spiderman did!!!

I apologize; I thought that would be a cute little list of likes, not a diatribe on peeps... sigh.
The point is, I am very excited to have three new to us pocket diapers coming in the mail as I type. Thank you modern science for PUL. You make my life easier!
